This chess set came in a luxurious wooden box laid out with red satin. Some of the pieces show a slight resemblance with sets made in the Borstendorf area by K.P.Uhlig, in particular the knights. But also the diagonal cut in the bishops and the shape of the cross finials on the kings are very Uhlig style. These design features together with the fitted box are reminding of luxury versions of Uhlig chess sets (some of them even made of ivory) produced around 1900-1910 or ivory chess sets distributed by Ernst Lauprecht dating to the 1930's, all of which also came in fitted boxes with velvet or satin interior.
The pieces are made of bone. King size is 80 mm. The main parts are screwed together with metal screws, which add to the weight and stability of the pieces. One side is natural, the other stained in brown. The column-like upright style of the kings and queens is somewhat unusual and makes this set rather special. The entire look is slightly more modern than the usual Uhlig sets, which makes me believe that this set dates around 1920-1950.
