Polish porcelain chess set made by the Ćmielów factory in Ćmielów / Poland. Ćmielów is making porcelain already since 1790, which can be seen from the mark imprinted on the body of the king. The pieces are made of hard porcelain one side with black and gilt decorations, the other only with gilt decorations. Interestingly, the bishops of each side have differently coloured finials, but not - as can be seen e.g. in the Czech, Austrian or Hungarian sets - with the colours of the opposing side, but with the colour of the squares they occupy. The black squared bishop of each side has a black finial, the white squared bishop of each side has a white finial, whereas the knights or the rooks do not have any king side stamping. All pieces are felted and I was surprised to realize that despite the pieces being made of porcelain they are very playable. The king size is 76 mm.
