Chessmen for Collectors, Victor Keats, 240 p.
First published in 1985, this is one of the classical books on chess collecting. The author, Victor Keats, was one of the leading chess historians. He received his M.Phil. from University College, London in 1994 for a dissertation on the subject of "Chess in Jewish History and Hebrew Literature". Over the years Victor Keats, who himself was the curator of a large chess collection and one of the founding members of Chess Collectors International (CCI), built up an international network of chess collectors, who provided their most glamorous pieces for being showcased in this wonderful book on 273 b/w and 50 coloured photographs. Even though Keats was a renowned chess historian, his historical notes on the depicted chess sets are not always accurate. Nevertheless, the book is a great read for someone interested in the matter.
The copy I acquired was personally signed by Victor Keats "With the author's best wishes".
