Crossing Games - Journeys between East and West, Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, Lisbon, 253 p.
The book was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Crossing Games - Journey between East and West" which was held from 14 June to 25 September 2022 in the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, Lisbon. The exhibition was based on the collection of fellow collector António Mota de Sousa Horta Osório, one of the world's largest private collections of game boards, and addressed the migration and exchange of games between East and West. It focused on the Asian production for the European market, carried out from the sixteenth till the mid-nineteenth century, and on the presence of Western games in Asia.
While the exhibition was not dedicated to chess alone, the chess sets and boards exhibited are vivid proof that the above mentioned collection rank among the top chess collections of the world. Apart from wonderful pictures a wealth of information is provided.
Former CCI President Dr. Thomas H. Thomsen acted as scientific curator along with Ulrich Schädler, director of the Musée Suisse du Jeu.
