Here is what I believe to be one of the earlier specimen of the Danish Union chess sets (also called "Knubbel" chess pieces). One of the rare sets with glass eyes. Glass eyes were very popular in the 1930's, so there is a good chance that the set is from the pre-WWII period. Later versions of this set have a different carving and less patina.
I bought the set from a Danish vendor and it seems the "Knubbel" design was for a long time among the most popular and widespread sets used in Denmark. See also the article
