Indian Chess Set, which was presumably made in the first half of the 20th century, ca. 1930. According to the seller, it was a camel bone chess set, but after receiving the set I discovered that it was actually made of ivory. One side is stained black, the other side is left natural. King size is 4". The Kings and Queens have bowl shaped finials, the Kings with a cross on top, almost resembling a butterfly cross, the Queens with 14 petals resembling a lotus blossom, the white Queen with two imprinted red circles on top.
Pursuant to the seller, the original owner brought it back from Burma during WWII. Nevertheless, the style of the set is clearly Indian.
